WHY WE NEED IT!
Our Birchington Village Centre is the home of many community activities and events throughout the year. It’s home for our many theatre groups, Band concerts, Comedy nights, dance and exercise classes plus many more. The Centre, is a hugely valuable village asset for residents of all ages. Originally opened in the early 1970s it has seen numerous changes and improvements but, of course, improvements are a continuous process. Most urgent at this time is the need to upgrade the stage lighting system. It’s long overdue for a change from the original, energy hungry, halogen bulbs (still in use) to modern and efficient LED units.
Beyond the huge reduction in energy use/costs, the ageing halogen bulbs makes them very expensive to change as they fail. Even just the sourcing of appropriate replacements bulbs can be a challenge.
The Fundraising Challenge.
Led by The Centre’s trustees, who are approaching regional, national, and governmental organisations for possible grant contributions. While we actively pursue these funding sources, the reality is they will stipulate that a substantial amount comes via local Birchington funds and fundraising – often 50% of the total The project cost is expected to cost in the region £40k as it goes beyond simply replacing outdated stage lights units, and will include new controls panels to get the best out of it. The project ambition is being kept to an appropriate level for a village hall, albeit a venue that is used for a huge variety of activities.
